As a preschool teacher, one of my favorite things is seeing the tangible progress of kids learning to write their name. I love that they write it backwards, put the letters in the wrong order and my absolute favorite is when kids make their "E" with way more horizontal lines than the required 3. Thinking these days were far off for Gwen considering she is going to begin the first of two years in preschool next fall, I was pleasantly surprised as she started showing interest in letters, what sounds they make, what words start with and more recently, writing letters on her own, especially easy ones like O, H and L. We really try not to push anything unless she is interested first and this really was no exception, I've just followed her lead. When making a birthday card for my dad, she was excited to write her own name and I think she did a great job for the first time! I can't believe shes getting old enough to do it!

that was one of my favorite landmark moments. although, unlike you, i had been pushing greta on it & when i stopped, what do you know- she wrote her name & now loves writing things out when she feels like it- no more pressure from mom! :)
